New Cads on the block

Formula One has confirmed an “agreement in principle” with automotive manufacturers General Motors, to bring its Cadillac brand to the grid as an 11th team from 2026.

“General Motors and Cadillac’s commitment to this project is an important and positive demonstration of the evolution of our sport”, said F1 President and CEO, Stefano Domenicali.

The proposal follows the previous rejection of Andretti Global’s bid to join the grid earlier this year, as it apparently failed to meet F1’s competitive, financial and value-offering requirements. But it’s not the end of the Andretti-F1 saga; Mario Andretti is serving as a director on the board for the venture.

Most associate Cadillac with luxury, which of course ties with the glam of F1. But hearing just the Andretti name alone makes you think of high-octane racing; therefore, it begs the question as to why the team was denied, and their only presence will be in the boardroom?

There’s no denying though that Cadillac’s proposed entry shows a significant expansion for F1, contributing to American growth and presence. And two more cars on the grid can only bring more action. Things are about to get exciting!
