Blades of glory or blades of snorey?

It might be the city that never sleeps, but surely it needs to have a rest at some point.

Last week, F1 and Las Vegas Grand Prix Inc Chief Commercial Officer, Emily Prazer confirmed plans for the addition of the Ferrari Challenge and an ice rink on the roof of F1’s Paddock Club at this year’s Las Vegas Grand Prix, citing an increased entertainment offering that’s paramount to fan experience.

This instalment will mark a second bash at the Las Vegas GP, following a turbulent inaugural event in 2023, marred with local complaints and a pesky drain cover prematurely ending Friday’s outings.

We get the Ferrari Challenge, but an ice rink feels unnecessary. Temperatures soar well above bearable. An ice rink? How about an ice bath!

Perhaps this is F1’s reaction to the recent reported decline of US viewership of the Dutch Grand Prix. A mere 1 million Americans tuned in – which is 2.5 million off Nascar’s Daytona Race 2 viewership.

It’s all fun and games until the drivers underperform, distracted by the festivities. Max Verstappen and Lando Norris have both expressed concerns over the constant noise and energy in Vegas 2023, and its implications on driver-downtime.

Las Vegas is a spectacle for its racing and entertainment, and let’s see how far they take it. At this rate, they’ll be racing on an ice rink one day!
